The Language of Dhad --- لغة الضاد



The Arabic Alphabet used in the Arabic writing, consists of 28 letters, some you will be familiar with, like the Arabic letters Alif (= A) and Ba (= B), some you won't be familiar with (if your first language is English) like the letters Ain and Ghain, and some you will ONLY find in the Arabic Language, like the letter Dhad.

That's why Arabic language is called: The Language Of Dhad.

This alphabet is considered sacred by Arabic people, because it is the one used in the Arabic writing of Qur'an.

Letters of the the Arabic alphabet have three forms depending on the position of the letter in the Arabic word; but lets forget about that now until you are familiar and confident with the 28 letters in their basic forms.



The Arabic Alphabet:




  • Alef = A ----- أ
  • Ba = B ----- ب
  • Ta = T ----- ت
  • Tha = Tha ----- ث
  • Jeem = J or G --- -- ج
  • HHa = Heavy H ----- ح
  • Kha = Kha ----- خ
  • Dal = D ----- د
  • Dhal = Dhal --- ذ
  • Ra = R ر
  • Zain = Z ----- ز
  • Seen = S ----- س
  • Sheen = Sh ----- ش
  • Sad = Heavy S ----- ص
  • Dhad = Heavy D ----- ض
  • Tta = Heavy T ----- ط
  • Dtha = Heavy Tha(?) ----- ظ
  • Aain = No equal in English ----- ع
  • Ghain = No equal in English ----- غ
  • Fa = F ----- ف
  • KKaf = Heavy K ----- ق
  • Kaf = K ----- ك
  • Lam = l ----- ل
  • Meem = M ----- م
  • Noon = N ----- ن
  • Ha = H ----- ه
  • Waw = W ----- و
  • Ya = Y ----- ي
