So, you would like to know more about Arabic singers?

On this page I've listed some of the most famous singers in the Arabic world, chronologically.

• Sayed Darwish (1892- 1923) - Egypt.

  The grandfather, or the.... godfather who laid the foundation of all modern Arabic music . Period.

  
  
  
• Om Kalthom, or Umm Khalthum (1898-1975)-Egypt.

  Known as the 'lady of Arabic singing'.



• Mohammad Abdulwahab (1902-1991) - Egypt.

• Farid Al Atrash (1910-1975) - Egyptian of Lebanese origin.

  Known as King of Oud . Farid was also a singer and an actor, you can see him in a lot of Arabic films.




• Asmahan (1917-1944) - Egyptian of Lebanese origin.

  أسمهان

  Sister of Farid Al Atrash. She was known as the 'golden voice'.



• Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977) - Egypt.

  عبد الحليم حافظ

  Nick-named the 'nightingale'. Listen to 'Ahwak' and 'El toba'.

And, here is my favorite Arabic singer...

Cheb Khaled or Shab Khalid (born 1960) - Algeria.

• Known as the 'king of Rai'.
• Rai is the music of the people living in the mountains of Algeria.
• Khaled moved to Paris in 1986, performing Rai blended with a mix of Funk and other western elements, and quickly became an international superstar.
• To get into Khaled's world, I would recommend his biggest hit single: 'Didi' - the live version please (it is always better to watch the live versions because of the atmosphere he creates).

  Just go to Youtube and type:

  Khaled-Didi Live.

  And please tell me how many times did you repeat it.

• While you're still at Youtube, watch Khaled's romantic song: Aiysha (or Aicha), where he sings in Arabic and French.
• To hear some hardcore Arabic singing from Khaled in Youtube, just type:

• And finally to watch this giant singing with a Oud player, Just type:

  Khaled-Rohi ya wahran 1 [ live in concert- casablanca 2007]
