2-Modern Arabic

3-Colloquial Arabic.

Learning Arabic starts with identifying the following guide lines:

  1. The highest level in the Arabic language is Classical Arabic , and on the top of classical Arabic language is the Qur'an.

Qur'an is the highest level of Arabic from a linguistic point of view. I am not talking religion or spirituality, I'm talking strictly about language, grammar and syntax.

This is the language used in Arabic dictionaries, Arabic proverbs and anything revolving around the religion of Islam.

The language of the the great Pre-Islam classical Arabic poetry.

  2. The second, or medium level, is the Modern Arabic (or Standard) language; linguists call it Modern Standard Arabic, or MSA for short.

It is the language, or the level of language taught at schools (in all Arab countries), used in Arabic news, Arabic newspapers, in official documents and in all kinds of official communication.

  3. The third level is the Colloquial Arabic , or Arabic dialects.

This is the everyday spoken language, usually not written (exception: Egypt and Lebanon..... written).

This is where you will find the Arabic words and the Arabic phrases used in the every day conversations, it is the language used in Arabic films, Arabic songs or Arabic TV online.

It differs from one country to another, and sometimes from one locality to another within the same country.

... These local varieties of the source language, the classical Arabic, are called Dialects (Egyptian dialect, Saudi dialect, and so on).
